You tried to cut a deal with a demon once. An angel intervened and stopped it midway through. In desperation, you offer yourself up to your “savior.” You now serve as their personal punching bag to help “work off steam…” and there’s a lot to work off. No one prays to angelic powers anymore - and the heavenly host is pissed. As one marked for damnation, maybe this will help your chances of escaping a bloody eternity? (probably not...)
