Don't You Love It Here?

"Don't You Love It Here?" is being made explicitly outside of genre limits, but would best be described as an open-world immersive life-sim sandbox with RPG elements. From a first person view, live out your life in this reactive town inspired by suburban Texas. It may seem like a nice town at first glance, but dig deeper and you will find that it is far from the truth. This place has much more going on than it seems. Try to fit in with this fucked up society and live a "normal" life, or rebel and tear it all down. Much of the game is a satirical take on suburban Texan culture, exaggerating it and making a dystopia out of it. There is a lot of writing and worldbuilding work already done, though there isn't much to show for it in-game yet. This game has been worked on intermittently for about 2 years, and the current plan is to keep working on it for an indefinite amount of time, gradually building onto it. The current goal is getting together a demo to show off the game's systems in a smaller map. The map will be just big enough to house everything needed for you and the NPCs to live, including a restaurant, grocery store, gas station, motel, and of course a gun store. Plot and story will be minimal in the demo, it's not a focus. A world has to be built first before it can be destroyed. Featuring: GOAP-based NPC AI - NPCs dynamically plan their schedules and actions based on conditional goals. Topic-based dialogue - bring up a topic to an NPC to initiate dialogue on it. Free aiming - instead of regular ADS, aiming lets you point your gun anywhere on the screen. Daylight cycle - the sky and lighting dynamically changes with the time of day. Phone/camera - the player has a cell phone that can be used to take in-game photos. Weapons - currently featuring a double digit arsenal of weapons consisting mostly of guns, with some others such as knives and power drills. The guns need to be cocked manually, and function more realistically than in most games. No invincible NPCs - everyone can die. Some planned features: Journal - automatically keep track of stats, quests, dialogs, and NPCs you meet. Careers - make money by working at the businesses in town, or through shadier means. Police - a militarized police force that patrols the town to stop crime, that the NPCs can alert. Player housing - rent or buy your own place to live in and decorate. Gardening - at your home, grow plants for food, selling, or even producing narcotics.
