Maze Race

Maze Race is a simple 2 player game where the players race to finish a maze. The player experience I had in mind was mild frustration and friendly competition. The maze is revealed to the player as they go through making it so they cannot just find the most optimal path through immediately. How to playPlayer 1 (left, blue) uses the WASD keys to move their dot around their maze. Player 2 (right, red) uses the arrow keys to move their dot around their maze. Each player has a randomly generated maze they have to traverse. The first player to reach the end of their maze (indicated by a square the same colour as their dot) wins. Play Testing Getting some people to play test my game was quite helpful in improving the experience. In an earlier prototype of my game, I had set the radius of tiles the player revealed to be only 1 tile in each direction (a 3x3 grid around the player). However, in testing, the small radius made the game way too tedious and frustrating as well as making the game feel more luck based rather than competitive. With this feedback, I changed the radius to 2 tiles in each direction which made the game less frustrating and a bit competitive and enjoyable. Another piece of feedback I got was that the end win screen was a bit unclear. In my original prototype I had a bit of text pop up in the middle of the screen saying "Player [X] Won the Game", before, after 3 seconds, bringing the players back to the main menu. However, during testing I noticed that the losing player usually didn't notice that they had lost until the game ended by bringing them to the main menu. To address this, I added a overlay on the screen when the player won (e.g. a red transparent layer when player 2 wins), stopped the players movement inputs and increased the delay to go back to the menu to 5 seconds when the game was over. These changes made it much clearer when someone had won the race. Stuff I made/didn't makeI made all of the assets used in this game.
