It’s possible you were born Cursed, though in that case, someone made that choice for you.Your Curse is part of a pact with a God, a bargain made for power. Using it comes at a cost, drawing you towards your worst instincts.These spirits are our emotions and deeds made manifest. They lord over their ghostly subjects in The Fathoms, an unending netherworld where our world is perverted and warped. It is your duty to keep them at bay. EFFIGIES is a tabletop role-playing game in which players take on the role of Cursed, agents of the Union who put their life and sanity on the line to keep their city safe from the paranormal horrors that lurk below. Battle against puzzle-like Ghosts or fight for your life against the primordial Gods. Delve into the Fathoms, hunt down these great spirits, and most importantly: CLAIM THEIR CURSESCharacters progress both by claiming the Curses from defeated spirits and by reinforcing their bonds with each other, two tracks that are often at odds. Will you give in to your darkest urges to become a spirit-slaying machine, or hold tight to your friends and hope they will keep you alive? Inspired as much by anime like Chainsaw Man as by new-school TTRPGs like Into the Odd, Effigies features a fast, action-focused combat system that rewards player creativity alongside inventory-based exploration in the labyrinthine halls of The Fathoms. It includes procedures for establishing The City, running delves into the Fathoms, and creating Lairs where the spirits dwell. Though fully playable, EFFIGIES remains a work in progress. While in its unfinished state, it will remain pay-what-you-want. The final release will feature many more Gods and Ghosts, expanded DM tools, and a number of additional illustrations.
