Twilight of Bronze

A Bronze Age world is ending. Will you survive it? Twilight of Bronze is a Bronze Age survival and strategy roguelike set in 1400 BC. You are one wanderer in a living world of 7 civilizations — Egyptians, Hittites, Canaanite city states, Israelites, Assyrians, Babylonians, Mycenaeans, with many tribes in the surrounding wilderness. Wars break out without your involvement. Famines strike. Sea peoples raid the coasts. Rulers die. Civilizations collapse. The world does not wait for you. Key Features Living World Simulation — many civilizations with real-time stability, rulers, armies, trade, wars, and collapse. The simulation runs continuously while you play. Brutal Survival — Hunger, thirst, temperature, and a full limb-injury system. Broken legs cripple you. Desert heat kills in hours. Frostbite claims extremities in the mountains of winter. Player-Built Outposts — Establish bases in the wilderness. Station workers with roles (Forager, Hunter, Guard, Caravaner, Fisher, Worker). Build upgrades like Smokehouses, Workshops, and Stone Walls. Let your Caravaner trade while you're away. Quests and Reputation — Delivery, bounty, escort, spy, sabotage, diplomatic courier, bulk cargo, religious missions, and divine commands. Reputation with each civilization affects prices, quest availability, and whether soldiers let you pass. Faith and the Divine — Follow YHWH or the faiths of the ancient world. Shrine offerings, divine quests, preaching, and piety — or apostasy and the wrath of heaven. Optional LLM Dialogue — Connect a local language model (Ollama) to get AI-generated dialogue from rulers, locals, and travelers. Fully playable without it. How to Play Place twilight-of-bronze.exe and the assets/ folder in the same directory and run the executable. The world generates on first launch. Your progress saves to save.json in the same folder — keep them together. The game is played entirely with the keyboard. Movement uses arrow keys, vi-keys (hjkl), or numpad — all eight directions. Press E or Enter to enter a settlement when standing on a city tile. Press Tab to open the Chronicle journal. Press X for the character sheet. Press Q or Escape for the main menu. A full key reference is included in GUIDE.md (bundled with the download). Your first priority is survival: keep hunger and thirst up, manage temperature exposure, and find a safe city to rest in. Engage the quest board at any city to earn copper pins and build reputation. Eventually you'll want to establish an outpost — a base in the wilderness staffed by party members who work, guard, trade, and build while you're gone. The world is dangerous. Civilizations that looked stable when you started may have collapsed by the time you return from a distant quest. Watch the stability overlay (V) to plan your travel. The Diplomacy screen (accessible from the escape menu) shows every civilization's current state and your reputation with each one. LLM Dialogue (Optional) The game optionally connects to a local language model server (Ollama or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint) to generate live dialogue from rulers, travelers, and city locals. This requires installing Ollama separately and running a model locally. Instructions are in GUIDE.md. The game is fully playable without this feature. Early Access — v0.2.0 This is an early public release. The core game loop, survival, quests, outposts, world simulation, is partially complete but playable. Known rough edges: Some world event chains are still being expanded Balance is still being tuned, feedback is very welcome Report issues or share feedback on the itch.io community board or the project GitHub. ★★★★★ Enjoying Twilight of Bronze?
