The Case of Subject 298
Controls: Highlight text to show Fragments with similar text. Story:On November 23rd, campus police at Harvard found Dr. Adrian Wexford dead at his desk, seated upright, as though still working. On his abdomen, three letters had been incised with a kitchen knife: END. On his screen, an untitled document ran to thirty chapters. The document, generated by an AI through thirty iterative passes on a single seed prompt, rewrites the same core content through escalating registers: bureaucratic memo, nursery rhyme, DSM diagnostic criteria, biblical prophecy, system error logs, classified intelligence reports, Dadaist eruptions, corporate wellness parody, ancient manuscript fragments, Victorian medical case studies, children's counting songs, apocalyptic scripture, pseudocode, and finally a philological reconstruction that collapses under the weight of its own footnotes. Wexford's personal journal entries, written over six days of increasingly obsessive reading, are threaded between the chapters. They trace a clinical mind dissolving into what it observes. This is an interactive archive. Nothing is visible until you search. Type a word like bird, purple, Tuesday, 340, 0.23, being read - and fragments will surface. Click to read. Save what you find. Try to find the Seed Prompt to unlock the fulll document in reading order Content warning: psychological horror, self-harm, obsessive states, reality distortion. This is a work of fiction.Disclaimer:I made an experimental tool (try it out here: https://claude.ai/public/artifacts/08936227-1bc7-4a2c-acc4-411ae3b4d25a), in which I let AI "edit" an input text acccording to a cycling array of vibes over 30 passes, using the output of the last pass as the input of the next; while giving it an overarching hidden prompt of doing whatever it can to encode information it learned during the pass into the document. (This while it must adhere to editing the input text faithfully towards a certain vibe, and each pass having no context of the other passes except for the output of the last pass). After a lot of messing around with the exact input, hidden prompt and vibe arrays, it produced some really interesting patterns out of essentially nothing and unintended by anyone created something of a psychological horror arc. This is essentially the output of all 30 runs, somewhat truncated and cleaned up and packaged into a framinig narrative surrounding one of the characters the AI hallucinated into existence.
