Lola's Coral Garden

Lola’s Coral Garden is a 3D cozy farming and exploration game where players work to restore a dying coral reef in the Philippines. Players collect fragments from thriving coral colonies, nurture them in a nursery, protect them from pests, and replant them in damaged areas to revive the ecosystem. Through these hands-on mechanics, players learn real coral restoration methods and the importance of reef conservation. As they progress, they also unlock childhood memories, deepening their connection to both Filipino culture and the ocean. The game is about a young woman continuing her lola’s (grandmother) coral restoration work in a reef threatened by climate change. Rather than only telling players about reef conservation, the game asks them to actively take part in it. Players collect, nurture, and replant coral, mirroring real restoration practices.By collaborating with her grandmother, the main character learns that protecting nature is a shared, generational effort. This relationship shows how knowledge and care are passed down, while the hands-on mechanics reinforce that small, consistent actions can heal ecosystems. We were inspired by real coral restoration efforts, from organizations like Coral Gardeners, and wanted to share a lesser-known but impactful way to save reefs. This theme is important because coral reefs are rapidly dying due to climate change, yet many people don’t know how they can be restored. By creating a cozy, engaging experience, we hope to raise awareness and make players feel connected to ocean conservation. We based the game in the Philippines, drawing from our heritage to tell a story of family bonds and introduce others to Filipino culture. - There is some instability on WebGL for Unity 6, if your game ever freezes, try a different browser before trying the Windows build if you can- In the nursery you can go into first person mode. Pressing Q will switch you between a fixed camera and first person. Signs are not interactable unless you get within range- In 1st person on WebGL, the player view sometimes skips forward/back while looking around. This shouldn't break the game, but it is a little jarring. If it becomes an issue, the Windows build doesn't have this as an issue.
