Uprising 2DimentionFunkin — Prototype Build
Uprising 2Dimention is a neon‑styled 2D rhythm game prototype inspired by the energy of Friday Night Funkin’ and the retro glow of classic arcade menus. This early build focuses on showcasing the game’s visual identity, UI layout, and core rhythm‑game concept through bold colours, pixel‑influenced graphics, and music‑driven interaction. Created as part of a Year 1 university project, this version serves as a visual and functional demonstration of the game’s direction rather than a full release. The gameplay is built around a simple and intuitive four‑key control scheme designed to be easy for beginners while still offering enough precision for rhythm‑game fans. Players interact with the music using the DFJK keys on their keyboard, which correspond to the four directional prompts that appear on screen. D = Left F = UpJ = DownK = Right Notes travel down their respective lanes in time with the beat, and the player must press the matching key as each note reaches the hit zone. This creates a direct connection between the music and the player’s actions, reinforcing the rhythm‑based nature of the game. The DFJK layout is intentionally spaced to feel comfortable for both casual players and those familiar with rhythm games, allowing quick transitions between keys without overwhelming the player. Successful inputs reward the player with score increases, sound effects, and visual feedback, while missed notes reduce the performance bar and break the flow of the track. This creates a satisfying loop of challenge and reward, encouraging players to stay focused and maintain their timing. The simplicity of the DFJK system also makes the game accessible to non‑gamers, as the controls are easy to learn and require no prior experience with complex keyboard layouts. Even players who are new to rhythm games can quickly understand the mechanics and begin enjoying the music‑driven gameplay. Prototype Acknowledgement / Known Issues As this project is still in an early prototype stage, there are several known issues that affect gameplay consistency. One of the most noticeable limitations is that the notes may not always fall correctly or appear in sync with the music. This behaviour is caused by timing bugs within the current note‑spawning system, which still requires refinement and debugging. These issues are expected at this stage of development and will be addressed in future iterations as the timing logic, update cycles, and audio‑sync systems are improved. Because of these bugs, players may occasionally experience notes spawning late, spawning early, or not spawning at all. This does not reflect the intended final gameplay experience but is instead a natural part of the prototyping process. The current focus is on establishing the core structure, visual identity, and input system before fully polishing the rhythm accuracy and note patterns. Future updates will prioritise fixing these timing inconsistencies to ensure a smoother and more reliable rhythm‑game experience.
