
Surface Footsteps for Godot 4
Surface Footsteps is a plugin (addon) for Godot 4. Add one node to your player, and it plays the right footstep sound for whatever floor they walk on. Concrete, metal, wood, grass, or anything you set up. This is code you add to your Godot project, not just a sound pack. It also comes with real foley sounds, so it works right out of the box. What's in the download The plugin: GDScript code you drop into your project's addons folder. 37 real foley sounds (steps and landings) for 4 floors: concrete, metal, wood, grass. All CC0, safe to ship in your game. A playable demo level and a small example scene that shows the minimum setup. A full guide with setup steps and troubleshooting. What the plugin does Detects the floor under your player and plays the matching sound. Times steps by distance walked. Strides lengthen naturally when running. Plays landing sounds for jumps and falls. 4 ways to tag floors: metadata, groups, physics materials, or zones for puddles and rugs. Random pitch and volume, and never the same clip twice in a row. Per-floor volume and pitch, with ▶ Preview buttons right in the inspector. One-click library builder. Point it at a folder of your own sounds and it sets everything up. stepped and landed signals for particles, footprints, or enemy hearing. Manual mode for syncing steps to animation tracks. Set up in 3 steps Copy the addons/surface_footsteps folder into your project and enable the plugin. Add a FootstepPlayer3D node under your CharacterBody3D and drop in the included sound library. Tag your floors. Done. Requirements Godot 4.4 or newer. 3D projects using CharacterBody3D. 2D is not supported yet. Pure GDScript. No C# needed. License: Use in unlimited free or commercial games.
