Haipai | Riichi Mahjong Math Puzzle Game
Haipai is a Riichi Mahjong puzzle game where you fill in the missing tile(s) to complete a legal hand AND make the hand equal the target number. Basically: Mahjong hand-reading + math + a little bit of suffering. Every puzzle gives you a 14-tile hand with one or more missing tiles. Your job is to figure out what belongs there while making sure the completed hand can still be arranged into 4 groups + 1 pair. The twist is that the tiles also have values and special effects. Number tiles are worth their face value, while honors can add, subtract, or multiply the total. Red fives are especially evil because they multiply the score too. So sometimes the “obvious” tile works for the hand shape but completely breaks the math, and sometimes the math works but the hand is illegal. There are four difficulty levels: Easy — clean, beginner-friendly puzzles Intermediate — more shuffled hands and trickier math Hard — jumbled hands, deceptive shapes, and more annoying tile-reading Yakuman — for people who apparently hate peace Later puzzles can get pretty nasty. You might see shapes like 23334 or 78999 where the correct grouping is not immediately obvious, so you have to pay attention to exactly what tiles you have. The full puzzle book contains 150 full-color pages with: - Easy, Intermediate, Hard, and Yakuman sections - lots of large, readable tile puzzles - Free Math areas for scribbling - Japanese Mahjong fun facts - Notes & Math pages - a complete text answer key This was made for people who already enjoy Riichi Mahjong, people trying to get better at reading hands, or anyone who just likes logic/puzzle books.
