Flotsam: a remote asteroid with nothing to recommend it save large deposits of stellarite, a volatile substance used to fuel starships. Many cycles ago, the Cydonian Republic slapped down a cheap terraformer, shipped in convicts by the tonne, and began mining. However, they eventually lost interest, leaving the colony to govern itself – alone in the void, nothing but a thin force bubble guarding it from oblivion. Precisely none of this matters to you: a convict bound for incarceration in a nearby system. With some unlikely allies, you escaped your cell, hijacked an escape pod, and pointed it at the nearest habitable rock. Now the colony looms in your view-screen; landfall is imminent.
