Windage: Arena
Playtest build · 0.69 · Windows WINDAGE: ARENA A first-person archery duel with Quake legs. Strafe-jump the length of a 140-metre hall, slide into cover, and put an arrow through a rising balloon, a steel plate on a far ledge — or through the other archer. Join our discord server to find whom to play with: https://discord.gg/KfnHa2svn What this is An early prototype, shared to find out whether the shooting and the movement feel right. Two people at a time, real arrow physics, no aim assist, nothing randomised. Everything below is tunable and probably will be — that is what your feedback is for. Balloon Hunt One balloon at a time drifts up from the floor of the gallery and escapes at the roof. Steel plates stand on ledges all over the hall. Both archers see them. Both can see each other. Distance pays. A pop is worth 20 points × (range / 10 m)², capped at 750 — a 60-metre pop already hits the cap. Streaks stack. Consecutive pops multiply ×1.25, ×1.5, ×2. A miss or a death resets the run — you'll hear it drop. Hunt the plates. Up to five small steel plates stand on edge on wall tops, rails, parapets and window sills, a new one every ten seconds or so. Each is worth 100 + 1 point per metre of range, and it doesn't touch your streak. Hit one and it flies off with your arrow in it; leave one standing for 25 seconds and it's gone somewhere else. The other archer is a target too. A kill pays 300 plus a fifth of their score; they're back in 3 seconds. First to 2000, or the most after five minutes. Tied at the clock? Overtime — next lead wins. The bow Hold to draw, release to shoot. A snap-shot leaves at a fraction of the speed; a full draw takes about a second and hits like one. Only a full draw one-shots the head. Arrows are simulated — drag, drop, and they carry your own velocity when you loose on the move. Lead your target, aim over the far ones. Hold at full draw for three seconds and the tremor sets in; four more and the bow lets go on its own. Fletching is your colour, so you always know whose arrow just went past your ear. The wind The hall has a wind: it lulls, gusts and swings over a round, the same for both archers. It pushes arrows downwind — half a metre at 40 m on a normal breeze, metres on the long lob — a tailwind shoots flatter, a headwind drops sooner, and it carries the balloon with it. Nothing corrects your aim for you: read the flags on the walls and the wind vane by your reticle. The legs Movement is Quake III's, on purpose: air acceleration, strafe jumps that chain past the sprint, circle jumps off a mouse sweep. Sprint and press C to slide — you keep your speed, you can steer, and you can shoot the whole way down. A jump out of a slide carries the speed on. Nothing brakes you but the floor. Modes PLAY ONLINE1v1 against a real person on the public server. The menu picks the arena where someone is already waiting; the numbered buttons join a specific one to meet a friend. YOU VS BOTThe same match against a bot that solves the same ballistics and wind you do and misses by a dice roll — no aimbot, no hidden help. It hunts you by sight and sound, and goes after the plates when you're out of view. PRACTICEThe hall to yourself. Learn the drop, learn the wind, learn the strafe jump, then press E to freeze time and fly a camera around your own shot. ARENA BUILDERBuild your own hall on a 5-metre grid: walls, window walls, ramps, decks, crates, bales, spawns and balloon zones. Test it alone or against the bot, save it, and share it as a code your friends paste in. Your levels show up in the ARENA picker for Practice and You vs Bot. What I'd love to hear Does the draw feel right — the snap-shot, the full draw, the tremor? Is the arrow honest? When you missed, did you know why — and could you read the wind? Are the plates worth the detour, or do you just ignore them? Did the slide and the strafe jump click, and how long did it take? Online: did the other archer look like they were where you hit them? Built a level? Post its code — I'd love to play it. Anything that stuttered, froze, or fell through the floor. Comments below are perfect. Before you run it Windows 10/11, 64-bit. Unzip anywhere and run WindageArena.exe. No installer. The build is unsigned, so SmartScreen will object: More info → Run anyway. Opens 1920×1080 windowed; resolution, graphics quality (Low to Ultra), field of view, fullscreen, v-sync, sensitivity, volume and the arrow cam are in SETTINGS — also reachable mid-match from Esc. On an older PC, try Low. Online play is two arenas of two on one server — if both are full, play with bot. Attribution on assets/movement goes to www.keviniglesias.com Updated: Sep 23
