Beatles Love Piano

Luca Aza – Beatles Love Piano This interactive piano instrument is built entirely from the “love” vocal snippets found throughout Beatles songs. Every unique instance of the word “love” was sampled directly from the recordings, and I intentionally did not alter the sounds, because it was important for me that they remain authentic Beatles Love sounds. Every Love was individually edited to be sample-compatible, but the biggest challenge was arranging them in sequence. Their pitch is often very relative, as most of the time multiple voices and instruments overlap, each at different pitches. So in some cases, I made absolutely subjective decisions about where a particular sample should go. There are 44 distinct “love” samples in this instrument — repetitions of the same vocal were not included twice. Because of the way these vocals were sung, the resulting sounds don’t map neatly onto a conventional musical scale. It was fascinating to discover how narrow the vocal range is, and yet how completely irrelevant that limitation becomes within the Beatles’ expressive and diverse sonic world. I Love You Love Me Do I’m already aware that there are other occurrences of “love” in Beatles songs that are not yet included here — for example in Yesterday and elsewhere. This project was originally created as a gift for a 50th wedding anniversary, and it celebrates not only the word love, but also the rich harmonic and emotional landscapes the Beatles created around it.
