A Prayer for the Impatient
A Prayer for the Impatient Made for Noise Jam 3. About 1.000 words long. This is a somewhat formalized style of prayer. I wanted to replicate the topics and form of prayers found in the Book of Psalms. Since it is also a very personal text, it deviates from the source material in tone and topics. NotesI switch how I address God throughout the prayer. I use lady and mother at times. This is not to invoke the catholic tradition of “the mother of God – Maria,” but to break with the understanding that God is a man. Little theological side-track: While male attributions and forms of address for God are prevalent in the bible, the texts also refer God with motherly attributes. There is also the recurring notion, that God is not a man but spirit. Anyway, I chose to switch between the different addresses as I saw fit for the different sections.I also use “she” and “he” throughout the prayer for myself. It was quite affirmative to use “her” for the times where I wasn’t aware of my trans-identity yet. The cases were I used “he” refer to how I perceived myself back then, and to account for a lived experience of growing up and living with a male socialization.
