SNKRX XL Remaster!
A while back I fell in love with SNKRX — the little roguelite where your party is a snake of heroes that auto-fights waves of enemies. It's open-source (MIT), so I decided to take it apart and rebuild it into the version I always wanted to play. Here's everything I've done so far: 🎨 Total visual overhaul Rewrote the renderer so everything draws at your screen's native resolution — crisp at any size instead of blurry upscaled pixels Replaced all 110 in-game icons with fresh art New typography throughout Added an interactive water background — it ripples when things get hit and your snake leaves a wake as it swims Glowing arena border + a living field of dust/star particles that react to your mouse and to impacts Rebuilt the main menu from scratch — animated title drop, a demo snake swimming around behind it A whole coin system: enemies drop spinning gold, it magnets to you with a satisfying chime, then flies to your counter on an arc Adjustable bloom lighting Damage numbers with gradient fills and big CRIT! pops ⚡ Quality-of-life (the stuff the original was missing) Post-run + per-battle stats screen — see exactly which of your units actually did the damage (and which one kept dying) Hover any unit to see its full stats + a preview of what the next level gives Keyword tooltips — hover a word like "Curse" or "Critter" and it explains itself Rerolls no longer re-show the unit you just rerolled away Achievements now cascade (clearing NG+5 grants 1–4) Auto-pause when you alt-tab Hover states now brighten instead of looking greyed-out/disabled Tooltips wrap properly and never run off-screen 🎮 Controls Full key rebinding for keyboard AND gamepad Complete controller support — analog stick steering, a custom cursor built for the pad, and button glyphs that match your actual controller (Xbox / PlayStation / Switch) 🔧 Under the hood Native macOS build Proper fullscreen that fills the whole display Reorganized the options menu into clean Audio / Video / Gameplay / Controls tabs Brand-new sound effects across the board AND A LOT MORE! This took over a year on and off.. (I'm slow) Still on the list: new music and a few more features. Happy to answer anything! (Built on SNKRX by a327ex, MIT licensed — full credit to the original.)
