Cat Goes Home

A pacifistic game about a cat seeking a refuge in a dangerous world. Made with love for humans by humans, with no AI used. (Game is free, but happy to accept donations). Release notes: For mac users: To run our game you should: 1. Open the .dmg image2. Run .app file3. Open macOS' System Settings, at the bottom of "Privacy & Security" section click "Open Anyway" under CatGoesHome.app4. Play the game! You can also find a more visual guide on Godot's website:https://docs.godotengine.org/en/latest/tutorials/export/running_on_macos.html#ap... (relevant section is "App is signed (including ad-hoc signatures) but not notarized") ''Why this couldn't have been a web game, I'm worried about my device security'' We want to try to do that eventually but it's not that easy. There are two problems with exports to web: 1. Something goes wrong with the godot export for web with respect to fonts, they don't work. 2. We use a custom, native C++ extension for pixel-perfect physics and enhanced experience. Compiling C++ to webasm is possible but not immediately trivial. The only modification the app does to your computer are saving configuration and save files in folder `~/.local/share/godot/app_userdata/CatGoesHome` (See folder locations for other OS). For speed-runners: Among else, we tried to make the game friendly for speed running community. This is a lot more complicated than it sounds because modern game engines normally operate in floats and have problems with reproducibility, however that shouldn't affect ours because we use a custom pixel-perfect physics engine written in C++ which is precise and reproducible. The game allows you to store and replay your runs if you want. For controller-users: The default experience is to play the game by keyboard and mouse. We think the game should be enjoyable by controller users too (as certified by our controller user). Note that visual hints will show keyboard-oriented suggests. Misc Please reach out here or to alice dot sayutina at uwaterloo ca if you have technical issues. We have to build each architecture independently so we might miss something.
