The Night Before

TRIGGER WARNING : FLASHING LIGHTS On Christmas Eve, a woman and a child find shelter from the bitterly cold night in an abandoned chapel. The flickering flames of candles cast uncanny shadows on the walls’ render. The wind whistles through the stained-glass window. The infant is terrified of this spectral decor: its cries tear through the silence. To soothe the baby, the woman takes out a book and starts reading out loud. It’s a collection of poems. Each verse is a spark of light against an invisible threat. Les flammes vacillantes des bougies dessinent d'inquiétantes ombres sur le crépi des murs. Le vent siffle à travers le vitrail brisé. L'enfant est terrifié par ce décor spectral : ses cris déchirent le silence. Pour rassurer le nourrisson, elle sort un livre et lit à haute voix, c'est un recueil de poèmes. Chaque vers est une étincelle de lumière contre une menace invisible. Ses mots sont d’humbles offrandes contre la peur, ils dissipent l'angoisse et suspendent la danse des ombres.
