The Flower That Bloomed Nowhere (Demo)
In the waning years of a post-scarcity society, a class of healing arcanists are invited to visit a organization aiming to discover the secret of immortality. Unfortunately, everyone dies. After almost two centuries of peace and progress, the Grand Alliance of the Mourning Realms is discovering that the death of history was greatly exaggerated. Unrest, barely suppressed two decades past, simmers across the continent as long-suppressed class and generational conflicts come to a head. Systems built to maintain the world order sputter and fail, and it seems only a matter of time before the next crisis. It is in this tumultuous period that the Order of the Universal Panacea, a secretive brotherhood of arcanists devoted to extending the human lifespan at all costs, has decided to end its long isolation and share its research with the wider academic community. As an outreach measure, the medical academy of Old Yru - the Alliance's capital - is sending its top class to attend their yearly conclave, where they will share research in an event broadcast to researchers across the Remaining World. But the Order has a secret. Long ago, they committed a sin against nature itself, and were forced to bargain with the gods themselves to survive. And now that debt has come due. The conclave is set to be the stage of a trial, one not of just them, but all mankind. Don't worry, though. It's not quite time for that yet. In the meanwhile, simply sit back, and enjoy what transpires without thinking deeply. Perhaps you'll notice something interesting. --- This is the demo release for The Flower that Bloomed Nowhere, a kinetic murder mystery visual novel. It is around 30,000 words long. Not all assets are final, and the script may differ from the final release. It's all of our first times doing a project like this, so give it a try and let us know what you think! This work is based on a webnovel originally posted on Royal Road here. While enough of an adaption that the core story remains the same, it should be seen as a sort of B-side of the prose version, with significant divergences in the structure and details to better suit the format. A huge thanks to Benedict and Zerovirus for all their help on the project so far, and to Xeecee for the music they contributed.
